Emergency Contact Information

Please reference the list of emergency contacts in each studio, which can be found at the teacher’s desk.

Evacuation Plan

Both studios have clearly marked exits, which should remain unobstructed at all times. In case of evacuation, you should instruct your clients to meet at a designated meeting point outside of the studio. In Ventura, it is the big tree behind the studio, and in Santa Barbara, it is in the parking lot in front of Chocolate Maya. Use a loud, clear voice to convey instructions during an emergency.

Fire Safety

Both studios are equipped with fire extinguishers, fire blankets, and smoke detectors that are checked regularly to ensure their functionality. The fire extinguishers and fire blankets can be found at the teacher’s desk. Please familiarize yourself with where everything is in the studio so you are prepared in case of a fire emergency. To learn how to use a fire extinguisher, please watch the video above. In case of fire, we use the RACE safety protocol method:

1. Rescue

  • The first priority is to rescue or evacuate anyone in immediate danger, if it is safe to do so. Help those closest to the fire or those who may be unable to help themselves, such as individuals with mobility issues.

2. Alert

  • Alert others to the presence of a fire by activating the nearest fire alarm and calling emergency services. This step is crucial to ensure a swift response from fire departments and to warn others in the building of the danger.

3. Contain

  • Once people are rescued and alerted, contain the fire by closing doors or windows to slow the spread of flames and smoke. This buys valuable time for evacuation and for firefighters to arrive and tackle the fire.

4. Extinguish or Evacuate

  • If the fire is small and manageable, and you have been trained in the use of fire extinguishers, attempt to extinguish it. Use the PASS method (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep) with a fire extinguisher. If the fire is too large or conditions are unsafe, evacuate the area immediately and ensure others do the same.

Severe Weather Protocol

In case of severe weather, please stay connected via WhatsApp for instructions from Eva or Marcus on what to do. In case of a blackout, there are lanterns and a flashlight in each studio. If clients seem worried, do what you can to keep them calm.

First Aid Protocols

First Aid Kit

There is a well-stocked first aid kit in the first drawer of the teacher’s desk in Ventura and in Santa Barbara on the left side of the front desk.

Injury Response

For minor injuries, clean the wound with soap and water, apply a sterile bandage, and document the incident in the injury log located next to the first aid kit. For serious injuries (fractures, severe bleeding) please CALL 911. Do NOT move the injured person unless in immediate danger. Provide comfort and reassurance until help arrives.

Basic First Aid Training

You should be familiar with basic first aid training, including CPR and the use of the AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Please contact Eva and Marcus for information on classes available to trainers.

Medical Emergencies

Should a client have a medical emergency (allergic reactions, seizures, etc), please inform Marcus and Eva IMMEDIATELY by text or phone.
